On the Cosy tariff here, heat pump, no battery, house occupied most days. The shape of it is three cheap windows a day, 04:00 to 07:00, 13:00 to 16:00 and 22:00 to midnight, with a peak window 16:00 to 19:00 that costs meaningfully more than the day rate.

What made it work without a battery was using the building as the store. Heating boosts a degree in the early morning window and again in the early afternoon window, cylinder reheats at 05:00, then the pump is set back through 16:00 to 19:00 and coasts. A well insulated house coasts through three hours easily. A leaky one does not, and that is the whole difference between people who love this tariff and people who hate it.

This is the right order and it is also why the tariff people and the installer people talk past each other. A pump running at 35 degrees flow can coast through a peak window on stored heat. The same pump at 50 cannot, because the house was never warm enough to have anything stored.

Three percent in clean sky is more than drift, that is the watch smoothing your arm swing into extra distance. Wear it slightly tighter and a centimetre further up the wrist and retest, it moved mine by about half of that.

A release is a state change in your deployment. A launch is an appointment you make with an audience you assembled in advance, and if you did not assemble one, there is nothing to launch to. Concretely, the assembly is the boring part: four to six weeks of talking to people in places where your users already are, collecting a list of anyone who says that sounds useful, and telling them a date. Then on the day, the thing you are doing is not publishing, it is contacting several hundred people who already agreed to hear from you, all within a few hours, so that everything that happens next looks like momentum to everyone else. You have not skipped the launch, you have skipped the six weeks before it.

The elbow directly behind the machine is where it packs first, because the hose gets crushed when you push the dryer back against the wall. Semi rigid duct instead of the flexible foil kind mostly solves that for good.

Disagreeing with the pigment recommendation for an extra fine specifically. Pigment particles and a very tight feed channel are not a happy combination, and an EF already runs drier than everything else. I would either move to a Fine for the field pen, or accept an iron gall which is a solution rather than a suspension and behaves like a normal ink in the feed. Alternatively keep a pencil for the wet days, which is the answer half the surveyors I know landed on.

The chair thing is genuinely the biggest single change. I put a lamp and an uncomfortable-ish armchair in the corner of the bedroom and my finished book count roughly doubled in a year.

The duct coming apart in a crawlspace is exactly the sort of thing I would never find. Booked.

The read aloud advice is the one I would push hardest. Mine went from abandoning chapter books to reading them alone over about eight months, and the only thing we changed was twenty minutes of me reading to him at bedtime.

Worth knowing this affects more than glasses. Hard water shortens the life of kettles and shower heads, makes soap and shampoo lather badly, and leaves that grey film on shower screens. A cheap test strip pack tells you the number, which is useful before you spend anything on a softener.

The thing I would pay attention to is not the smell itself but whether you have symptoms. If you are getting headaches, a scratchy throat, or sleeping badly and it lines up with the mattress, do not tough it out for months on the internet's advice. That is worth a conversation with a doctor and worth checking your return window, because most companies have a trial period and it is far easier to use it at week four than at week ten.

For what it is worth, no smell at all and a fast fade is more common with foams carrying a recognised low emissions certification, which is worth looking for next time.
