Life happened, then the momentum went. Eleven weeks since I touched the code. It has been running fine the whole time, which is either reassuring or an indictment. Six people still pay, $78 a month total. Nobody has…
First time doing this. The page says "join the waitlist", there is a pricing table with three tiers, and there is a screenshot I made in Figma. None of it is real. There is not a single line of code. Everyone says this…
The headache itself lasts most of a day, then the next day I have no pain at all but I am foggy, clumsy, and words come out wrong. I feel like I am moving through porridge. It is almost as disruptive as the headache but…
Team of four, we merge roughly 15 PRs a week and maybe 70% of the code in them is model written. Test suite is decent, 1,100 tests, about 6 minutes in CI, covers the money paths well. Two camps internally. One says…
Day job went from occasionally paged to a formal rotation: one week on, two off. The on call week is a write off. I am tired, I cannot start anything that needs more than twenty minutes of head space, and twice now I…
The tool I want to build sits on top of a scheduling API. Section 4 of their developer terms says I can't build anything that competes with or is substantially similar to their own features. They shipped a thin version…
I built a scheduling thing for small heating and cooling firms after doing the books for one for two years. I know the problem is real. I have no idea where these people are. They are not on the developer sites, they…
Judge prompt asks for a 1 to 5 rating on helpfulness and accuracy given the question, the retrieved context and the answer. As a sanity check I fed it answers with fabricated citations, answers truncated mid sentence,…
Frameless 40L, about 9kg loaded. Whatever I do with the load lifters and hip belt, by hour two all the pressure is on a narrow line across my collarbones and I'm shrugging constantly. Torso length is measured and…
Undergrad was a big campus and friends came free with the timetable. Now it is a small department where everyone is thirty plus, married or gone by five, and the two bars near campus are wall to wall undergrads. I am…
Big five bank plus a credit union, and roughly every six weeks one of the connections drops and needs re authenticating, sometimes losing a few days of transactions on the way. I'm already on a paid app so this isn't a…
a runaway job ran overnight and the 80% budget alert landed in my inbox the next morning, by which point it had been going for nine hours. the budget alerting is clearly not built for detecting things fast, it's built…
Single process, twelve goroutines all incrementing one int64, and a metrics endpoint that reads it once a second. I keep going back and forth between a around the field and a dedicated goroutine owning the value with an…
Electric resistance tank, twelve years old, sitting in an attached garage that hovers around 5 10°C for most of the winter. Family of four, showers are basically the whole load. The heat pump models cost meaningfully…
Mostly a hobby, maybe ten paid days a year, and one venue recently asked me for a liability certificate which is what started this. My home contents policy has a single item limit well below what the longest lens is…
Budget 18000 used. Commute is 60km round trip, almost all motorway, five days a week. Two children in high back boosters, one dog in the boot, and a very tight parallel parking space at home that measures 5.1 metres. I…
Roughly ninety guests, and the plan is two cameras on a table with a guestbook so people can stick prints in with a message. I have set aside about USD 250 for cameras plus film and I would rather spend it on film than…
Twelve async workers fetching pages, all consulting a map of about 50k domain to rate limit entries. Reads are maybe 95% of accesses, writes happen when a new domain appears or a limit updates. I can either wrap it in…
Top floor rented flat, west facing, no AC allowed and nowhere to mount a ceiling fan. The room is 24 25C at 2am even with the window open, because the outside air is not much cooler. I wake up sweating most nights in…
Full time job, one small child, and the realistic window I can offer is about ninety minutes on a weekend afternoon most weeks. I keep reading that beekeeping is a light hobby and also that you must inspect every seven…
US citizen, fully remote job, planning about a year of a van plus short rentals across states. I still have a car loan, I need an address that satisfies my bank and my insurer, and I would like to vote and file taxes…
Small bakery, about £14k through the till in a normal month, two part timers. Some months I take £900, some months £2,600, and twice I've taken nothing because a mixer died. My accountant keeps saying set a fixed figure…
I see the phrase used for three completely different practices and I cannot tell which one people mean when they say it worked for them. One person posts a monthly revenue chart, another posts a changelog entry every…
Bought a two person tent on the strength of a 1.1kg figure, weighed the box contents and got 1.49kg including stakes, guylines and both bags. The difference is basically my entire summer sleep insulation, so I would…
Term starts in three weeks and the entire course is one PDF. Last time I tried this I made cards straight from my highlights, ended up with roughly 2,000 sentences with a word missing, and abandoned the deck by week…
