On question two, the honest answer for anyone whose toolchain is not fully native: leave it installed and stop thinking about it. It costs disk space you will not notice and does nothing until something needs it.
The purist position of finding out early is reasonable and it has a cost: you discover the gap at the moment you need the tool, which is never a convenient moment.
