Moved countries with two suitcases and a new office dress code, what do you buy first?

One line item that saved me real money: buy the coat and the boots in the end of season sales for next year rather than in the week you need them. I moved in September, bought a coat in a panic in November at full price, and saw the same coat at a fraction of it in February. Everything except the immediate two week starter set can wait for a sale cycle if you are patient about it.

From starting to look to keys in hand, how many weeks did yours actually take?

I am going to disagree with the give-yourself-plenty-of-time advice. A long search made me a worse buyer, not a better one. After six weeks I had seen so many cars that I stopped seeing them clearly, started tolerating faults I would have walked away from in week one, and eventually bought something because I was tired of looking. My best purchase was made in eleven days with a tight brief and a hard budget. Two months is a fine runway, but do not treat it as a target to fill.

Open-source password manager that a non-technical partner will actually use?

The thing that made it stick in my house was not the software, it was doing the migration for her in one sitting. I sat down with her laptop, imported the browser passwords, deleted the browser copies so autofill stopped competing, set up Face ID unlock, and walked through adding one new login together. Nine days is exactly how long it lasts if you hand someone an app and a good intention.
