Fourteen months of paying for a sleep app and I'm still awake at midnight
I've had a subscription running for over a year, mostly for the sleep stories and rain soundscapes, and I switched to a second app after the first stopped working for me. It's roughly seventy dollars a year and I genuinely can't tell if it does anything a free eight-hour rain track wouldn't. Has one of these earned its keep for anyone, or is the subscription buying me a nicer interface on the same white noise?

I've paid for both of the big ones at different times, a year each, so I can compare them concretely. One is better at the narrated sleep stories, more voices, longer catalogue, and the narration actually fades rather than ending abruptly. The other has the stronger structured courses, so if you want a ten-part thing on winding down it's the better buy.
What neither did was change when I fell asleep. They changed what I did while lying there not sleeping. That's worth something on a bad night and it is not worth seventy dollars a year twice over, which is what I was doing before I noticed I had both.
