One month per city or three months per city on a 40 hour week

One month is a holiday cadence being run at work volume, and it shows up in the boring things. You never get a dentist, you never finish a course of anything, you never have the same coffee place recognise you. The whole point of going slower is that ordinary life gets to exist alongside the travel.

Would you take the 15-year again, or did the payment squeeze you when things got tight?

Took the 15 in 2016, hit a lean year in 2020, and did not regret it: but the reason is specific and worth stating. We had eleven months of expenses saved before we closed, so the lean year was survivable without touching the payment. The 15-year is a great product for people whose buffer is already built and a genuinely dangerous one for people who are counting on the payment being affordable at current income forever. Which of those you are is the whole question.

Client wants 9am New York calls while I am in Bangkok, what actually works

From the sleep side: keep your wake time fixed no matter what happened the night before. Everything else can move. An evening call is a bright screen plus adrenaline at the exact hour you want your body winding down, so cut the light after it, dim everything, no bright kitchen, and give yourself an hour before bed that is not a screen. If you have to shift your whole day, shift it by an hour at a time over a week rather than all at once.
